Melamine is mainly used as a starting material for the production of melamine resins, which are used as glue and impregnating resins. Glue resins are used, among other things, for the production of particleboard. As an impregnating resin, melamine resin is used for impregnating and bonding decorative papers to substrates such as particleboard. The resulting surface is characterized by good moisture resistance and high scratch resistance. In addition, melamine is used as a flame retardant additive in paints and coatings.
